Reason to blog?

I've spent a big part of 2008 ignoring this blog. But finally we have something interesting going on... an event that friends and family might like to follow. We had been rolling around the idea of adopting again pretty much since we brought Pie home. So this summer we began to research our options. I read an article by an adult adoptee from a multiethnic family like ours who loved her majority parents deeply and commented that the best gift they ever gave her was her brother. It was having someone with whom she could share the experience of being adopted and growing up looking "different" than her parents made a huge difference for the good.

So our first desire was to adopt from China again but in the time since Pie's adoption the China program has become so slow as to be functionally at a stop. That's when we began to think about Korea. A big mark in favor of Korea was the idea that we would be likely to be able to adopt a boy. A brother is what Lala and Pie were adamant they wanted. The long and the short of it is that we are now waiting for a referral for a baby boy from Korea! We received approval from an agency and were placed on their waiting list at #16. As of December, we had moved to #13. We are tentatively hoping for a referral in May or June. All adoption timeframes are variable so that is our best guesstimate. But exciting nonetheless. I'll try to keep up the blog to keep family and friends posted.
